West Newbury Police Department Appoints New School Resource Officer
WEST NEWBURY – Chief Art Reed is pleased to announce that Officer Justin Lindahl has been appointed as the West Newbury Police Department’s School Resource Officer.
After an extensive search, the department selected Officer Lindahl as the new SRO on Aug. 1. Officer Lindahl has been with the West Newbury Police Department since December and served as a reserve officer prior to this promotion.
As the SRO, Officer Lindahl will spend about 40 hours a week in the West Newbury Public Schools during the school year. He will be working with faculty and students in the high school’s law enforcement class, as well as safety programs at the elementary and middle schools, focusing on topics like anti-bullying, bicycle safety and, in the coming months, Halloween safety.
Additionally, Officer Lindahl will provide Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) to faculty and staff at all schools, teaching them how to secure themselves and their classrooms during an emergency.
“We are so pleased to have Officer Lindahl working in a full-time capacity with the schools,” Chief Reed said. “I am confident that he will excel as the School Resource Officer and am excited to see the new ideas he will bring to our students.”
Before joining the West Newbury Police Department, Officer Lindahl served as a full-time dispatcher for the Stoneham Police Department. He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and a master’s degree in homeland security from Endicott College.
Officer Lindahl plans to attend a police academy in the Spring.
