Suspects Believed to be Involved in Break-Ins in Groveland, Haverhill, Boston, Weymouth, Quincy, Lynnfield, Needham and Franklin
WEST NEWBURY — Chief Jeffrey Durand reports that the West Newbury Police Department is charging five individuals with breaking into motor vehicles locally. The group of male suspects is also suspected in a series of motor vehicle break-ins all over the region that occurred this summer.
A 17-YEAR-OLD JUVENILE FROM JAMAICA PLAN, a 21-YEAR-OLD MAN FROM BOSTON, a 20-YEAR-OLD MAN FROM BOSTON and a 19-YEAR-OLD MAN FROM JAMAICA PLAIN are charged with:
- Receiving Stolen Property Under $1,200
- Conspiracy to Commit a Crime.
Additionally, a fifth man, a 20-YEAR-OLD MAN FROM JAMAICA PLAIN is charged with:
- Attempting to Commit a Crime (Larceny under $1,200) (Four Counts)
- Larceny Under $1,200 (Two Counts)
- Credit Card Fraud Under $250 (Two Counts)
- Posing Without Authority as a Cardholder (Two Counts)
- Receiving a Stolen Credit Card
On June 16, West Newbury Police received multiple reports of vehicles that were broken into overnight in the area of Robin Road and Crane Neck Street. One item stolen from a vehicle was a TD bank card.
That same day, Groveland and Haverhill Police also received multiple reports of motor vehicle break-ins. The stolen TD Bank card was also reported as being used at CVS, 425 Lowell Ave., Haverhill multiple times between 4:30-4:45 a.m.
Surveillance video from CVS showed a male, later identified as the 20-YEAR-OLD JAMAICA PLAIN MAN, using the card. The TD Bank card was also reported as being used at Walmart stores in Quincy and Weymouth.
On June 19, the remaining four suspects were arrested in Weymouth for allegedly breaking into motor vehicles in that city. Inside a vehicle operated by the suspects, police found a laptop that had been reported stolen from a vehicle on Robin Road in West Newbury.
West Newbury Police completed their investigation this week and will be issuing summons to the five men. They will be appear in Newburyport District Court at a later date.
“I want to commend everyone involved in this investigation for their diligence and hard work over the last couple months,” Chief Durand said. “This was a very involved case that relied on inter-agency teamwork. It’s through our strong law enforcement partnerships that we were able to identify, locate and hold these individuals responsible for the crimes they committed.”
West Newbury Police remind residents to follow important safety tips to prevent motor vehicle theft:
- Take your keys. Don’t leave them in your vehicle.
- Close all windows and lock all doors.
- Never leave valuables in your vehicle, and if you do, make sure they are out of sight.
- Park in well-lit areas or preferably inside a garage, if possible. Install lights with motion sensors near where you park your vehicle.
- Beep before you sleep. If you have a key fob, simply click the lock button every time you exit your vehicle to ensure it’s always locked.
