Police Chief Jeffrey Durand and Fire Chief Michael Dwyer announce that the West Newbury Police Department and West Newbury Fire Department will hold their annual “Fill the Fire Engine” food drive on Saturday in partnership with Pentucket Regional High School National Honor Society students.
WHEN:
Saturday, Dec. 4, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
WHERE:
West Newbury Food Mart, 275 Main St., West Newbury
WHY:
West Newbury Police Department and West Newbury Fire Department hold an annual food drive, with the goal of filling a fire truck with non-perishable food items and personal care items, to be delivered to Our Neighbor’s Table.
Officers and firefighters will be assisted by National Honor Society members from Pentucket Regional High School. Students will earn community service hours while helping those in need.
The Departments ask that residents bring these much-needed items:
Food: Instant potatoes, hearty/meaty soups, cereal, canned pineapple, canned pears, tomato soup, peanut butter, juice boxes
Personal care: Shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste/toothbrushes, razors, dish detergent, laundry detergent, incontinence supplies
Our Neighbor’s Table, based in Amesbury, is a critical resource in Northeastern Essex County, assisting residents in West Newbury and surrounding communities who face food insecurity.
Food insecurity is defined as a lack of steady access to enough food for an active, healthy lifestyle. Studies have shown that food insecurity has increased in Massachusetts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The West Newbury community always has been extremely generous in supporting this effort,” Chief Durand said. “Every donation is greatly appreciated, and goes a long way toward addressing a critical need in town.”
