WEST NEWBURY — The following is a statement from West Newbury Police Chief Jeffrey Durand:
“The West Newbury Police Department has been made aware of rumors circulating on social media about a potential threat of violence made toward Pentucket Regional High School.
“The department has investigated these rumors and has found them to be unsubstantiated. At this time, it is believed that there is no credible threat toward the school.
“Out of an abundance of caution, West Newbury Police will have an increased police presence at the high school in the coming days. We will also continue to work closely with the Pentucket Regional School District on this matter.
“Chief Durand urges anyone with information about a potential threat to contact the West Newbury Police Department at 978-363-1212.”
